History: Usui Reiki is traditional Japanese energy work that has been around for thousands of years. There are multiple forms of Japanese Reiki and most, if not all, indigenous cultures have their own style of energy healing. Mikao Usui founded Usui Reiki in 1922. Usui Reiki is the most widely known version, due to Hawayo Takata bringing it to Hawaii in 1937. The book I was taught from was written by William Lee Rand, who was attuned for Reiki in 1981.
